The Lotus Collaborative Difference
1) Our treatment program utilizes the beauty and magic that makes Northern California so unique. Groups are occasionally held at the beach, in the redwoods, state parks, at the local Farmers Market, grocery stores, and local restaurants. We've found that this approach keeps treatment from feeling "stale" and stagnant, and helps clients engage in their local community resources. Our goal is to help clients practice recovery in their "real lives" so that when they transition from our program, they are more integrated healthfully into their community and home environment.
2) Our beautiful treatment centers are unique in their design. They offer tranquil and soulful, homelike environments. We believe that healing can be optimized when clients are shown respect by offering them a beautiful, professional treatment center.

3) We offer a balanced treatment approach with validated therapies for eating disorders including: interpersonal, family, and group therapy; nutritional counseling and meal support; as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems. Using these types of therapy, our clients learn mood regulation along with healthy coping and communication skills. Our therapy approach also values collaboration and social activism, such as mentoring and educating.
4) TLC believes in hiring recovered staff that can speak freely about their own recovery journeys. We have found that this open communication inspires clients in their own recovery as they know staff can relate and "practice what they preach." Our staff aspires to inspire those working on recovery, to demonstrate that people can find peace in recovery and fully enjoy their lives, eating disorder free.
5) TLC also hires staff that have never had an eating disorder themselves. We've found that regardless of one’s personal history, connection to smart, competent, and compassionate staff can truly enhance one's treatment experience and journey.
6) Our staff is committed to treatment collaboration where each client feels heard, valued, and included in the process. While we guide the experience, clients can shape and influence their treatment journey. Teaching clients to have a voice and speak their truth begins in treatment process and is a potent recovery skill.

7) TLC has a strong alumni focus that extends beyond most programs’ weekly, alumni group. Alumni are invited to participate in a Sunday recovery support group.
8) TLC believes it’s important that we understand the unique individual you are: who you are, where you've been, what you’re struggling with, what your strengths are, and where you'd like to go from here. We believe in meeting people where they are - and that you don't have to want to recover from an eating disorder in order to get help or seek treatment.

9) TLC has found that definitions of what “recovery” looks like vary from person to person. A client’s treatment and recovery goals are something we define and refine together. Collaboratively, we can help you determine your recovery goals and develop a treatment plan specifically designed for you.
10) TLC does not believe in pressuring clients to give up their eating disorders. Instead, clients will be supported to achieve optimum physical and emotional health, whatever stage of change they are in.
11) TLC does believe if a person would like to fully recover from an eating disorder that it is possible. We help clients accomplish this by identifying the reasons the eating disorder began and by addressing those issues in a healthy, sustainable way. This can be achieved by breaking the addictive cycle and learning healthy coping skills that will allow for the client to move on and thrive! We have found that, once an individual experiences glimpses of life without an eating disorder, their recovery takes on a life of its own. A client’s healthy/recovered voice only then needs to be nourished and supported as it continues to grow and blossom. TLC also fully supports those who aren't “totally recovered” but need support to maintain eating disorder sobriety.

12) TLC utilizes the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Eating Disorder Treatment Guidelines. All of our staff specialize in eating disorder treatment and are warm, wise, and passionate. It's very important to us that you feel heard, respected, and empowered. Our treatment program is designed to minimize disruptions to your work/school/family lives and to be a supplement to outpatient treatment.
